Top 10 Sport ATVs
Suzuki LT250R
The Quadracer earns a spot on our list for its significant influence on the sport ATV market and for being the first high performance, race ready (for its time) sport ATV on the market. At the time of its release in 1985, the sport market was dominated by three wheelers but all of that quickly changed as the other manufacturers followed suit. The LT250R enjoyed the longest life span of any of the 250cc sport machines and was a game changer for the industry at the time.
Suzuki LT80
Although one of the longest running production machines on our list, the LT 80 earns a spot as probably the most important youth ATV ever in production. Kids these days with their race ready APEX quads just don’t understand how rough some youngsters had it back in the 90’s as the LT 80 was the ONLY option for youth riders. bSeveral other models came and went including Suzuki’s LT50, Yamaha’s 4 Zinger 60 and Badger 80 but the LT 80 remained as the premier youth ATV for nearly two decades.
Yamaha Blaster
The Yamaha Blaster provided a necessary stepping stone between youth ATVs and the “bigger bikes” like the Banshee and the 250R. Although Yamaha didn’t recommend the quad for anyone under the age of 16, there just weren’t a lot of options for young folks who’s knees were hitting the handlebars on youth quads but couldn’t yet handle one of the bigger machines. The Blaster was small enough to make an excellent trail machine but powerful enough to climb almost anything you threw at it with a light rider on board.
Suzuki LT500
The “Quadzilla” as it is appropriately named was Suzuki’s answer to the Yamaha Banshee back in the late 1980’s. Although it only enjoyed a four year life span the single cylinder 500cc 2 stroke makes our list for its timely introduction and being truly one of a kind. Many expected Kawasaki and Honda to follow suite as both manufacturers had similar 500cc power plants developed for dirt bikes however Suzuki remains as the only OEM ever to release a big bore two stroke ATV.
