Quad Tech's Carbon Fiber and Decal Kit - TRX450R

Nov. 01, 2004 By Mike

Add a great new line to the front of your Honda TRX450R with a Quad Tech carbon fiber hood and new look with the Quad Tech graphics kit and seat cover. Your quad will stand out to the spectators, other racers and potential sponsors at the track or have an awesome custom look on the trails and at the dunes.

As soon as I opened the box, I knew the hood had to go on right away. The installation instructions walk you through all the steps. You start by removing the stock hood and head light assembly. The head light comes off easy. You might want to keep the stock hood and light. They can be reinstalled for a night ride in very little time. After the stock equipment is gone, the Quad Tech hood slides right in place. Fasten the top of the hood with two plastic rivets. The instructions have you remove the front fenders for easy access to the front rivet locations. I was able to leave the plastic on and drill a small pilot hole from the inside out, then drill trough from the outside for the plastic rivets. The hood fit perfect and really cleaned up the body lines on the front of the Honda.

The Quad Tech graphics kit and seat cover colors and design are very cool. They would look equally good on a black or red TRX. Closely following the instructions is key for successful installation of the graphics. You'll want to drain the gas and air out your fuel tank prior to applying the tank stickers this will help keep them from bubbling. Remove the existing decals and clean the plastic. Once you figure out where all the pieces of the new graphics go, start putting them on. Spraying the plastic and stickers with water, as instructed, helps with alignment and smoothing of the graphics.

The seat cover has the same design and colors on the side as the graphics kit. The top is a non-slip fabric that is great for racing. The cover can be installed over the old seat cover or directly on the seat foam. I removed the old cover and put the new one on. This allows the foam to expand into the new cover and helps smooth it out. I was able to fasten the Quad Tech seat cover with my staple gun. An air or electrical stapler, as recommended in the instructions, would have been much better. It took a second try on a few staples to get them in all the way. If you are not comfortable with installing the seat cover or don't have the tools, any upholstery shop should be able to do it for you. The cover fit like a glove and lined right up with the graphics.

I ran the completed Honda at a couple of WORCS races to see how everything would hold up. At the starting line several riders came over and commented on the new look, all good. Friends and family watching the race said it was easier to pick me out. The gripper seat cover was much appreciated when the track got wet or muddy and is holding together fine. The graphics kit is also holding up well. The small sticker on the right rear fender started peeling back from my leg/boot rubbing on. I was able to stick it back down and trimmed the edge of it so that it was back about a quarter of an inch from the edge of the plastic. It's been in place since. The Quad Tech kit, seat cover and hood have been subjected to dirt, rocks, mud and several pressure washings and still look great. I'll be looking into additional kits for the other four wheelers in my garage.
