Seperate the stock A-arm from the spindle. With the spindle removed, you can tie it back until you have the new A-arms installed.

Remove the A-arm bolts. A look at the chassis with both A-arms removed.
Old and new Lower A-arms.  The new arms are 2" wider   and much beefier than stock.  Old and new Upper A-arms.  The new a-arms allow lots of room for large body shocks.
The American Star arms use metal bushings on each side of the heim joints.  The new A-arms bolted right in with NO fitting problems.
American Star uses a patented design that allows much free-er movement than the standard ball joint. Connect the spindle to the new top and bottom A-arms.
Make sure you have a full range of travel. We found that we needed to adjust the heim out to allow spindle clearance.  Now we have a full range of travel!
New American Star tie rod on top and factory arm on bottom. The new tie rod is not solid like the factory tie rod. The chome moly tube is very light and strong. The new tie rod is manufactured with .188 wall 4130 chrome moly and then machined to accept the stock ends.
Almost ready for setting the front end. With the tire mounted, we can set the quad down and adjust the front suspension.
You will now need to set the caster, camber, and toe. If you are not sure what these settings are we recommend you get professional assistance. (Look for a complete article on this subject in a future issue.) The camber should be set between 0 and 5 degrees of negative camber. Caster should be at approximately 4 to 5 degrees positive caster. The quad should also have 1/8" to 1/4" of toe in.
The new Russell brake lines for the 400EX come pre-timed, unlike some of the competitors kits. A couple zip ties will hold the new brake lines to the a-arm and out of harm's way.
The stock brake lines will not be long enough to accomodate the new A-arms. We recommend you pick up a set of Russell brake lines. The Russell lines feature teflon inner liners and stainless steel outer casings. The 400EX kit bolts right up like the stock lines, and to top that off, they just look cool! The new setup is now ready for some serious abuse. In fact, Kip Kilburn from American Star Racing challenged us to go "beat the heck out of them". With a lifetime warranty we are certain to do just that. We have since had the 400EX out in the desert, on the dunes, and at the motocross track. We love the new setup. The front end turns much easier and the extra width adds a little bit of extra stability that makes the 400EX a pleasure to ride at speed. We don't believe this improvement should be limited to the racers out there. If you ride aggressively at all, we think you will find the American Star Racing A-arms to your liking!
