Big Bear 4x4 and 2x4 - 2003 Yamaha ATV Lineup

Aug. 01, 2002 By ORC STAFF
The Big Bear 400 4x4 and Big Bear 2WD continue to run the forest. Made to outlast their competition, these bears work best through the forest's grooves, pikes and turns and live to work, work, work. Both Big Bears are powerful workhorses that feature unparalleled class-leading performance, outstanding "quality feel" and durability for an unbelievably low price without sacrificing the essentials customers have come to expect from Yamaha ATVs.

These bears offer air-cooled 386cc powerplants, a 33mm carburetor providing excellent throttle response throughout the rev range. A five-speed semi-automatic transmission allows riders gearing options for traveling through mud and other rough terrain with a super-low stump-pulling first gear and reverse providing a smooth blend of power for farm chores, taming hills, rocks, logs, deep swamps and trails.

The Big Bear 400 4x4 boasts the On-Command™ pushbutton 4WD/2WD. If fallen trees or mud ever block its path, a quick push of the button allows its rider the extra power of 4WD and the ease of overcoming many obstacles. Both units boast front disc brakes and sealed hydraulic rear drums that provide plenty of stopping power. And the rider won't lose his way through the forest with a speedometer and odometer to tell exactly how far into the woods he's traveled.

The rider can expect a comfortable and convenient ride with oversized front and rear fenders that offer excellent water protection. The 25-inch tires, coupled with 9.7 inches of ground clearance, enable him or her to get over stumps and logs with ease. Nearly six inches of front and rear suspension make traveling the trails smooth. A four-gallon fuel tank allows the rider to conveniently go deeper into the woods to find that remote location or game. The new choke and reverse lever are positioned near the handlebars for ease of use and the new air filter is now easily accessible via a no-tools airbox.

ATV customers demand that their machines provide years of enjoyment and utility capabilities. All new for 2003, the Big Bear 400s are equipped with ultra durable powder coated wrinkle finish racks and front bar carry. The racks support a carrying capacity of 265 pounds and a center-mounted towing hitch can pull more than 900 pounds for hauling game from the woods, camping equipment or fence-mending tools. The Big Bear 400s continue the tradition of Yamaha bulletproof reliability. These bears contain waterproof electrical components similar to those found on Yamaha marine products: a battery located under the seat for protection from water and debris; a sloped front guard enables the ATV to glide over obstacles; an oversized 11-row oil cooler positioned high under the fender; a sealed gear case with a high vent for increased water protection; and beefy A-arm protectors provide excellent protection against nature's worst elements.

The 2003 Big Bear 400 4x4 and 2WD are available in hunter green, beige and red. The Big Bear 400 2WD will hit showroom floors in September at a manufacturer's suggested price of $4,399, and the Big Bear 400 4x4 will be available in June for $5,199.
