Armadillo Aluminum ATV Products

Aug. 01, 2001 By ORC STAFF
After our first adventures on the Paiute ATV Trail system with our trusty Honda 300EX, it became very obvious that we were in desperate need of some upgrades before we hit the trail again. We had three major issues:
  1. The stock swing arm/chain guard kept bending when made any contact with rocks, to the point where it hits the chain and sprocket.  Not good.
  2. We need a way to haul a small load, like a camera bag or cooler for snacks and drinks.  May seem like a luxury, but a supply of good drinking water can become a necessity if you're stranded five miles from base camp!
  3. We need extra gas to make sure we can get back to camp on those long trail rides.  We haven't run out, yet, but we certainly don't want to be the only one in the group without that extra gallon when you need one...
We turned to Rocky Mountain ATV in Utah and their line of aluminum products manufactured by Armadillo Off Road.  Armadillo had solutions for all three, and while we were at, it we decided to dress up the front with their polished XCL bumper.
Armadillo goes all out, providing an extruded piece that is .250 thick with xxx chain strip The polished XCL is buffed to a show quality finish for a chrome-like appearance, without the weight of chrome-plated steel bumpers

The Armadillo Out-n-Back rack provides for one gallon of fuel and a six pack cooler

First up was installing the new Armadillo Out-n-Back rack Two bolts on each side and the stock grab handle is off

The factory tail light will be re-attached to the Armadillo Rack The Out-n-Back is attached to the factory mounting positions
Re-attach the tail light to the mounting holes provided We are ready for a test ride with the new Out-n-Back Rack
Now to get rid of the ugly factoy bumper The Polished XCL bumper is very light
Four bolts and the XCL is bolted to the factory mounting positions The Armadillo bumper makes a world of difference to the front of the 300EX!
You can see how well the stock guard was holding up. Five bolts hold on the stock swingarm guard.
The new .190 Armadillo Swingarm guard should hold up much better against the rocks. The Armadillo guard comes equiped with a chain slider and is well supported to protect the sprocket and brake rotor.
Now that we have all the cool new stuff on, we are ready to tackle the trail again.  As we write this, we are preparing to load 'em up and head for the trail, to see how the new equipment affects the ride of the quad and how it holds up under trail abuse.  We'll give you the full test report next month.   ORC Staff
