The turn out for the race was awesome, and we
where all very excited to get the racing started. The weather in
the morning was perfect - it didn't get as hot as it usually does,
the only problem was with the wind. About the time the Pros went
out for there first moto, the wind was starting to pick up. It did
not get too bad, but you definately had to think about how it was
going to affect you when you were jumping. But before we could get
practice started, we had to have the riders meeting.
During the Riders meeting, Jason announced that
for the 2006 Maxxis Quad Cross series, we will have the MAIN track
at RACE TOWN. Everyone was very excited to hear this news because
unlike the front track, the main track is much more difficult.
There are more jumps that are much bigger and more technical. This
series is growing every round, and with this change we know that
Quad Racing will start growing even more in Southern California.
More of the sponsors are stepping up and putting up more cash to
hopefully draw in more of the Pro riders.
With Dustin Nelson a NO SHOW, Jimmy Robinson was very
excited that he could close the gap between him self and Nelson.
Although it wouldn't be enough to take over the lead, it will
definately help him out. Levi Marana, who is running in third, was
there, as well as Cyle Chislock, who was hoping that he could take
home the win for the weekend, and move himself into the fourth
place position for the series.
Pro Moto 1 – Levi Marana, riding for
Temecula Motorsports on his Yamaha YFZ 450, grabbed the holeshot
for the first moto, with Cyle Chislock, number 3, and Jimmy
Robinson, number 29, right behind him. It was a close race for the
first couple laps. Chislock made the pass and put some distance
between him and the rest of the pack. Marana and Robinson had a
close race, but Levi took the second place position, and Robinson
took third. Chislock took the first moto win.
In between motos I was able to have a chat with
Cyle Chislock and ask him about his new Honda 450R - specifically,
why he had made the switch from Yamaha to Honda. And he simply said
that he likes the Honda more. He really likes the power that he can
feel with the Honda. With Cyle Chislock making the switch to Honda
and fellow rider Levi Marana on the same Temecula team, will we be
seeing Marana make the switch as well? Only time will tell.
Pro Moto 2 - Cyle Chislock knew that he needed
to take the win in the second moto as well, if he wanted the
overall for the weekend. And knew that he needed a good start or it
would be difficult trying to make the passes on this tight course.
He was in the right spot from beginning to end.
Chislock was out front off of the start,
grabbing the holeshot and making it look very simple. He led the
entire race and never looked back. Jimmy Robinson was too close for
comfort with Levi Marana, so he knew he could not slip up.
Fortunately for Marana, Robinson stalled it after the double, and
Marana moved into a second place overall for the weekend. Robinson
took home the third place trophy for the weekend.
Cyle Chislock took home the win for the weekend
and twenty-five points, which moved him into the fourth place
position.
Levi Marana is in third place for the series, and as
long as he does well in the remaining three rounds, he should
podium at the end of the year. Jimmy Robinson is in a comfortable
second place for the series, and Dustin Nelson looks as if he will
take the championship as long as he does not make this NO SHOW a
habit, which is not to likely.
However there are still three rounds left and
anything could happen, especially with the November race being a
double-pointer. All we can do is wait it out and see what it comes
down to.
Open 2 & 4 Stroke - # 88 Dean Pierce, who
was running two classes this weekend, walked away with the win in
the open two and four stroke class. Dean took both moto wins for a
1 -1 finish for the weekend. Christian Vargas took two second place
finishes, and the second overall for the weekend. Christian is in
first place in the series with 177 points and Dean Pierce is in
second.
Dean hopes that with the double-pointer coming
up he can close the gap a little more on Vargas, and hopes to take
the win for the series.
We would like to thank all of the sponsors who
help in building this series, and making it better every round.
Some of the thanks go out to: Maxxis Gotta Be Rollin, Performance
