I had met some fellow Cruiser owners one day while 'wheeling at Hollister Hills and one of them told me about this FJ40 Dashbox.  He said it was complete replacement of the factory dash and the top opens up so you can store lots of things in it.  Since there is not much storage space in a Cruiser to begin with, I thought this would be the perfect item to install.

I contacted Foreman's Performance Products and spoke with them on the phone about their FJ40 Dashbox.  They described it to me as "a lockable metal storage unit that replaces the FJ40 or FJ55 dash pad.  The Dashbox has been sculptured to reproduce the original look and feel of the factory dash pad while providing massive amounts of lockable storage."

"The Dashbox is constructed from heavy gauge metal, using a heavy duty piano hinge for the lockable flip-top lid.  A durable black textured paint has been applied inside and out resulting in a finish that looks as good, if not better than the original dash pad."

Every single Dashbox is professionally crafted by a metal fabrication shop and is thoroughly inspected prior to shipment.  According to Foreman's Performance Products, it is their exceptional quality standards and attention to detail that has resulted in zero returns.  A few days after I spoke with Foreman's Performance Products, I picked up my new Dashbox Deluxe Kit and brought it home.  It was packaged very well in foam wrap to protect it from possible shipping damages and included all the necessary hardware for a speedy installation.  I was amazed at the first site of the Dashbox.  This is truly a piece of art.

Remove the two knobs securing the windshield frame and the five screws holding the lower dash pad to the firewall. Remove the dash pad from the dash pad bracket. Locate the spot welds holding the dash pad bracket to the firewall.  Using a center punch and hammer, mark the center of each spot weld (I had 14 spot welds). Use the spot weld cutter to remove the spot welds.  WARNING:  Do not cut all the way through the spot weld or you will end up with lots of holes in your firewall.  There are two pieces of metal welded together; the firewall and the dash pad bracket.  Drill (cut) the spot weld until you get almost through the dash pad bracket, but stop before you get to the firewall.  Once all of the spot welds have been cut, remove the dash pad bracket from the firewall.  You may have to rock the dash pad bracket back and forth to fatigue the last bits of metal holding it to the firewall. Now is a good time to clean up the firewall and repair any rust problems. Insert the 3 studs into the firewall using the existing threaded holes from the dash pad (use the center hole and the two end holes). Insert the Dashbox onto the studs and install a large washer, lock washer, and nut onto each stud.  Do not tighten the nuts too tight. Reinstall the two knobs into the windshield frame.
