Performance

2007 Apex Mountain

  • Genesis 150FI™
The Genesis 150FI 4-cylinder engine is designed to build high horsepower and keep weight low. It cranks out about eight additional horsepower over its forebear, the Genesis Extreme™, to hit 150hp class performance. It also weighs 7 pounds less than the Genesis Extreme. The engine’s high-tech fuel injection system also delivers quick, crisp throttle response and as a bonus it runs significantly cleaner than most snowmobile engines on the market today.
  • Fuel injection system
More than just a bolt-on part of the Genesis 150FI, the fuel injection system required a full engine redesign. The low-pressure system uses an injector and butterfly valve throttle body to aid in delivering outrageously crisp throttle response, 150 horsepower production and class-leading fuel economy.
  • Rear-exiting 4-2-1-2 titanium exhaust
The exhaust pipes coming out of the Genesis 150FI engine are configured in a 4-2-1-2 design. The exhaust, featuring titanium head pipes, adds to the engine’s higher output and also reduces weight. The patented rear exit design serves many performance-enhancing functions. First, it cools the pipe by running it down the tunnel, where it can be snow-cooled. Second, it reduces the amount of under-hood heat produced. Third, the rear-exiting design distributes weight for a finely balanced sled.
  • 2.2 pound lighter forged crankshaft
The forged crankshaft in the Genesis 150FI is 2.2 pounds lighter than the original crankshaft design in the Genesis Extreme. This is a large contributing factor in the Apex Mountain’s razor-sharp throttle response.
  • Radiator/rear cooling
In order to generate consistently-strong engine performance in any condition, all Genesis 150FI sleds feature a small radiator and electric fan assembly on the right hand side of the engine cab. The sled also has a small rear heat exchanger at the rear of the tunnel.

  • 16x162x2.25-inch Camoplast Maverick track/extrovert drive sprockets
Yamaha and Camoplast collaborated in the design of the Maverick track. The 16x162x2.25-inch track features a 3-degree pitch to allow more snow to pack in between the lugs for a firmer grip on the snow. Also, the lugs are extremely varied in design and profile for even more traction in multiple snow conditions. Churning the track is a pair of factory-engineered extrovert drive sprockets. The engineering team purpose-built these sprockets to work with the Maverick track and reduce vibration.

  • Handling

  • Single-taper mountain tunnel
To accommodate the new 16-inch wide track, the Apex Mountain needed to have a different tunnel. The single-taper design is lighter than previous mountain tunnels. It features a straight angle for simplcity and rapid snow elimination. In addition, the runningboards are wide with aggressive star-punched traction along their length. Overall, the tunnel is 140mm longer than previous mountain tunnels.
  • Adjustable width second generation front geometry
The second generation geometry on the front end of the Apex Mountain uses the same short spindles and long A-arms as the trail Apex machines, but adds an adjustable width feature to allow owners to set the skis at the desired width. In addition, the configuration maintains spindle castor at 23 degrees throughout the travel stroke. This gives the sled consistent and predictable steering regardless of the suspension’s activity.
  • Aluminum HPG front shocks
The High Pressure Gas (HPG) shocks on the Apex Mountain’s second generation front suspension geometry deliver consistent performance with excellent fade resistance. They are rebuildable and rechargeable for years of quality service.
  • Integrated airbox/small hood
The design on the Apex Mountain is very efficient, often integrating many functions into one component. One such example is the use of the airbox as a part of the hood design. The upper element, closest to the headlight, is comprised of the silencer cover for the airbox. This design feature allows for a significantly smaller hood piece, which reduces weight.
  • Magnesium chaincase
The Apex Mountain features a lightweight magnesium chaincase. The exotic material cuts a pound from the previously used aluminum chaincase on previous models.
  • Lightweight hydraulic brake system
The lightweight 4-piston brake system delivers solid stopping power without fading, even in high-use applications. It also incorporates a lightweight, double-finned, self-cooling brake disc.
  •

    Comfort

  • ProMountain™ 162 rear suspension
The lightweight ProMountain rear suspension is a conventional torsion spring design. It was engineered to help the sled get up on plane in the fresh snow. It does this through weight transfer and shallow track approach angle. The dual-angle rails also give the Apex Moutain excellent trail manners, while maintaining its deep snow floatation. The ProMountain 162 delivers 14 inches of vertical travel. The rear idler wheel is elevated 25mm, thanks to the dual-angle rail design.
  • Deltabox™ II with comfortable rider-forward position ergos
The primary design objective of the Deltabox II chassis was to create a comfortable rider-forward posture. The ergonomic treatment is achieved by moving the handlebars forward by 6 inches and raising them by 4 inches. The seat is also roughly 2.5 inches taller and the seated position is 8.375 inches forward of previous models. With this positioning, the rider can go from sitting to standing and back again easily and comfortably. It also further centralizes the combined mass of sled and driver, for razor-sharp handling.
  • Tall, lightweight mountain seat with large rear rack
The seat on the Apex Mountain is taller and lighter than on a trail sled to suit the mountain rider’s unique needs. The seat uses super-lightweight, yet firm foam for its height. In addition, the lightweight seat includes a storage trunk in the rear, with expanded capacity and accessibility. In addition to the seat storage, the Apex Mountain also features a large rack on the end of the tunnel. The design incorporates a highvisibility LED taillight in the back. The rack measures 11.8 x 15.75 inches.
  • Wide, hooked handlebars with new center grab strap
To match the tall and forward position, a taller and wide hooked handlebar is standard fare on the Apex Mountain. The design incorporates aftermarket-style, keyed slot hooks on both sides to eliminate unwanted hook rotation. The hooks have the same grip material as the main bar section, for more consistent control, regardless of hand position. Mountain riders will appreciate the new, stiffer and shorter center grab strap when it’s time for sidehilling. The new mountain bar location is an inch taller than the ‘06 mountain handlebars.
  • Apex-style digital gauge
The Apex Mountain features a digital gauge cluster. Readouts include barometric measurements, dual trip meters and a clock! In addition to these functions, the gauge has been styled to match the aggressive lines of the Apex body work.
  • Standard electric start
Yamaha’s electric starter system allows consumers to fire up their Apex ER with the turn of a key. There is no pulling on a nylon cord to get this high-tech engine growling! Electric start has been a standard feature on all of Yamaha’s 4-stroke machines.
