Orange, California: Living every desert racers' dream is the man, the racer, and the icon of desert racing. And following in the footsteps of Parnelli Jones, Walker Evans, Ivon "Ironman" Stewart is So Cal's own Robby Gordon. Now a famed bad boy on the asphalt circle track, Robby has many deep roots in the desert racing community. Whether he's racing NASCAR, SCORE-International or the local desert races, he's hardcharging.
For instance, it's not everyday when you visit your local sand dunes and happen to watch Robby fire up the 800+ horsepower Trophy Truck and rage Oldsmobile Hill for an hour stunning the small 10:00 p.m. crowd.

Robby is known for his wide-open full-throttle driving and here at the 2002 Baja 1000 you see the #31 Cingular sponsored Robby Gordon Trophy Truck at full-speed with a 37" BFGoodrich Project T/A ripping apart while airborne. Robby and his #31 Cingular crew finished 3rd in the Baja 1000. Visit www.RobbyGordonOffRoad.com

ORC Staffers were on hand that particular day when the Cingular Wire Trophy Truck crested the short hill that led into the Oldsmobile Hill valley at the famed Glamis Sand Dunes near Brawley, California. The roar of the race motor and wall of Hella HID lights mounted on top of the Trophy Truck was the give-away. And it was the same down to earth desert racer that wicked up the volume for that small crowd that night. Little did most know what kind of surprise they were in for when the neon orange colored Trophy Truck readied for sand battle. For what seemed hours on end, Robby launched his fire-breathing Trophy Truck off the small launching pad at Oldsmobile Hill landing some 100+ feet down the hill where he mashed the gas pedal to the floor throwing the Cingular Trophy Truck into a big right turn and roosting a heap of sand towards the crowd.
And every Sunday, when the circle track boys take to the asphalt, the off-road Internet websites blaze on fire with chat as the #31 battles against the boys of the South. And only weeks ago, the Internet exploded as Robby won another NASCAR race in Northern California.
And so, what makes it special that Robby Gordon has recently opened the doors to a new business? Well, this so-called new business is really only new to the actual public, as Robby and his family have been supporting and supplying professional desert racers and teams with parts, frames, shocks, and more for decades.
Well, that IS what makes it right. Bob Gordon and his desert racing phenom son, Robby, absolutely know what to build, how to build it and what it takes to survive in the harsh desert environment. They have tried and tested thousands of extreme engineered parts in the wilds of the Baja Peninsula for decades and Robby has grown up living and breathing the dust of desert racing. So it makes perfect sense that Robby Gordon Off Road enter the huge off-road market place in 2003.

Recently, I had the chance to sit down and talk with the man who runs the show at Robby Gordon Off Road, Roger Willis. This man's credentials are impeccable, as he comes from a strong background of over 22 years in high-performance automotive retail and many years of commitment to the Super Shops performance stores.
As a long time merchant who is a cornerstone in the off road automotive scene, and with connections throughout every avenue of on and off-road automotive aftermarket accessories, it's no wonder Robby has surrounded himself with the best men available. Roger Willis is known in the industry as the man who gets the job done and only accepts the job being done perfect every time.
The new Robby Gordon Off Road held the grand opening on April 26, 2003 and immediately debuted the immaculate shop and unique retail area. For example, holding up the corners of the glass display cabinets are the famous Robby Gordon Coil-Over 4" shocks. The showroom displays much of Robby's previous Baja racing gear, such as helmets, racing suits and more. But the majority of the showroom is all about products. From Bilstein, Fuel Safe, Advanced Flow Engineering, Donahoe Racing, and more, they have it all. "Ask and you SHALL receive."
Recently, ORC upgraded from the Alcoa 16.5 wheel and BFGoodrich 35x12.50x16.5 tire to the new BFGoodrich 315x12.50x17 inch tire, which meant we were in the market for new wheels. We headed to Robby Gordon Off Road and met with Roger and his crew.
And sure enough, once Roger busted open the first box with the RG1 Simulated Beadlock Wheel, we were sold. Soon enough, the sound of the plastic credit card hitting the glass case was profound. And better yet, Roger and his crew took the keys to the ORC Dodge Ram Cummins powered truck and headed for the shop area.

It wasn't long before the old Alcoa's were off and the new Robby Gordon RG1's Simulated Bead Lock Wheels were mounted with brand new BFGoodrich KM Mud Terrain tires. After a quick car wash, we were off in search of some testing.
The following day we blazed a trail to Primm, Nevada where we met Jesse Jones and the entire Jones Motorsports Team where they were testing their Trophy Truck. Arriving an hour early, we romped around on the well-known Primm racecourse in the heavy Dodge Cummins powered Ram truck. And the results were recorded. OUTSTANDING.
Now, after just completing a 7000 mile road trip toting the 40' Mlllenium Race Hauler, we're convinced that the combination of the Robby Gordon RG1 Simulated Bead Lock Wheel and the BFGoodrich KM Mud Terrains are the leaders of the pack when it comes to a combination asphalt and dirt setup. FULL SERVICE SHOP:
ORC staffers thought we were ready to pull away when Roger Willis explained that they were just preparing for the carwash. We questioned him and explained it was unecessary, as we were headed to the desert for desert racing event coverage the following day. However, Roger insisted and began washing the ORC Dodge Ram Cummins himself, that is until some of his staff saw him working his ass off, and then took over washing the ORC truck. Every vehicle that has work performed by the employees at Robby Gordon Off Road recieves a car wash with treated soft water. The dirty ORC Dodge Ram Cummins left the Robby Gordon Off Road shop clean as a whistle. Thanks to Roger Willis and Robby Gordon. Visit them at www.RobbyGordonOffRoad.com
