San Diego, California -John Herder got the hole shot off the line as 10 Unlimited Desert Buggies took to the race course. In a change of the lineup, BFGoodrich's Rob MacCachren filled in for Fox Racing Shox/Viejas Casino sponsored driver - John Marking, who suffered an injury on Friday night. The injury to his hand sidelined him from driving, but MacCachren got in Marking's Jimco-built race car and hit the starting line as if it was his own. MacCachren was third off the line and after a single lap familiarizing himself with the 1.7 desert course and Marking's car, he was making up time on Herder who had jumped to a lead.
But even before the first lap was completed, Jeff Seifert took a wild ride as he rolled three times heading into the first turn. Seifert is racing a four-seat powerful black off-road car that doesn't really seem to hang with the top guns in this class, but at times he's shown some big speeds. The big black four seat rolled down the starting stretch like it was in slow motion. Luckily, Seifert was uninjured.
Chasing down MacCachren was McMillin Young Gun - Andy "BeBo" McMillin, but as the race wore on MacCachren had no problem finding the skinny pedal. Pat Dean ran in the pack of leaders for a couple laps before flames were seen from the motor area of his buggy and he pulled over in the infield to have the flames extinguished by track workers.
ESPN's Cam Steele entered his Class 12 beam car in the Unlimited Desert Buggy class and finished in sixth position ahead of Siefert, Ewalt, Ronco and the smoky - Pat Dean. Of the ten Class 1 entries, nine were penalized for various infractions except for the Desert Assassins KingPin - Cam Steele. Something seems real ironic about Mr. BadBoy being the only racer not penalized during the race.

Unlimited Desert
Truck Nissan Nationals Championship |
|
San Diego, California -
A field of nine Unlimited Desert Trucks took to
the 1.7 mile Nissan Nationals championship course all vying for the
top spot representing the off road desert series here in the final
CORR racing of the 2005 season.
The grid of
nine trucks started off fast with reigning SCORE Trophy Truck
Champion- Jason Baldwin leading the trucks down the line, but not
for long. Marty Coyne, driving the #5 Pro Comp Unlimited Desert
Truck jumped to the front after #11, Dale Dondel gave way for a
line of trucks to blast by. Coyne didn't waste any time as he
pounded the gas pedal in search of more power. Coyne is fresh off a recent short course stadium win after
capturing the SCORE Terrible's Cup that was held at the Las Vegas
Motor Speedway. He's also a veteran short course racer that has
long been regarded as a top competitor. Jason Baldwin chased down
Coyne on the back stretch reaching speeds of over 115 miles per
hour, but it wasn't enough to catch Coyne. SMD Motorsports Matt Scaroni, driving the #27 Unlimited Desert
Truck, made some great moves early in the race positioning himself
for a podium if he finished strong. Scaroni pushed his truck hard
and charged the leaders and ended up scoring his first podium
finish in the new #27 Trophy Truck.

Pro 4 Nissan
Nationals Championship |
|
San Diego, California -The who's who of off road racing all buckled up
for the first of two big races this weekend here in Chula Vista.
The leaders of the DIRT Nation all lined up to face off that will
determine the Nissan National Pro 4 Champion. Johnny Greaves, Rob
MacCachren, Josh Baldwin, Curt LeDuc, Rick Huseman, Scott Douglas,
Carl Renezeder, Kyle LeDuc, Ed Herbst, George Reiss, Steve
McCrossan, Jim McKenzie and Todd LeDuc all went fender-to-fender
fighting for the best position on the track. As they went off the line, it wasn't long before the fireworks
started and Johnny Greaves was right in the middle of it. Greaves
looked like he was pushed off the left side of the race track and
was blasting hay bales like they were construction cones on the
freeway. And while Greaves had his hands full getting out of the
thick stuff the rest of the field pushed hard into Turn 1 at full
speed. The banked turn held the top five or six trucks and they
blasted down the front stretch at top speeds. Scott Douglas was pushing his Rancho Pro-4 deep into the turns
at speed chasing down Renezeder who jumped into a slight lead. But
it wasn't long before perennial favorite, Johnny Greaves, got his
yellow Pro-4 pointed down the course chasing down the leading pack
of speeders.
Second lap action saw Rob
MacCachren suffer a fuel pressure problem that sidelined him for a
half of lap putting him behind the pack of leading Pro 4 trucks.
Twice in the race, MacCachren slowed because of the mechanical
failure, but when his Pro 4 was running at speed he logged
caparable lap times to the leaders.
The
yellow flag came out for the mid-way pit stop and that bunched up
the 13 Pro-4's for the final charge towards the finish line.
Greaves led into the final lap as Renezeder and Rick Huseman raced
hard to the finish.
Greaves took the first
place win, Renezeder followed in second position with Rick Huseman
finishing in third.
Seven of the fourteen Pro-4's received penalties
during the race. They included Jason Baldwin, Scott Douglas, Rob
MacCachren, Jim McKenzie, Todd LeDuc, Kyle LeDuc and George
Reiss.

Pro Lite Nissan
Nationals Championship |
|
San Diego, California -
The field of 19 Pro Lites took to the Chula Vista
International Raceway in search of gold, but only one would take
home the first place trophy this afternoon. Sunday's action will
tell the tale and someone will be taking home a boat load of
cashola as top teams compete for the big money. The whining motors of the Pro Lite cars filled the stadium as
the DIRT Nation looked on as the top six cars headed into the first
turn with the pedal mashed to the ground. Kincaid, Hord, Federico,
Krueger, LeDuc and Schmitt all drove hard into the first turn and
into the front stretch.
Hord got a slight
lead while the others battled against for position. He ran in the
front pack of trucks while LeDuc pushed the limits charging in the
final laps. The 2004 CORR Pro LIte Champion - Kyle LeDuc finished
the Saturday round in second position holding off third place
finisher - Mark Krueger, although both of these top competitors
could not catch the winner Chad Hord.
Sportsman 2 Nissan
Nationals Championship |
|
San Diego, California -
The first day of racing for the Sportsman 2 here
at the Nissan National Championships were spectacular for the seven
entries in the Sporty 2 class. Missing from the regular lineup was
Skyjacker's Ross Hoek who was forced to enter the Pro-2 class after
suffering engine failure in Thursday's only practice.
Leading the class was the usual cast of characters
with names like Oberg, Baudoux, Wandehsega and so on. Driving the
Amsoil sponsored #280 Sporty-2 was Mike Oberg who left the line in
first position as the Sportsman-2 ran at the same time as the Pro-2
racers.
Oberg was running clean and strong
throughout the race on his Khumo tires and earned the hard fought
victory after battling the course with the 20 combined teams of
Pro-2 and Sportmans 2.

Pro 2 Nissan
Nationals Championship |
|
San Diego, California -
This
field of outstanding off-road racers have gathered here at the
Chula Vista raceway for the Pro 2 Shootout. Listen to these
names...Renezeder, Taylor, Baldwin (Josh), McGrath, Barlow,
Probst,Todd LeDuc, Evan Evans and Boris Said, as well as a host of
other big names. From the barren deserts of North America, Toyo
Tires sponsored Trophy Truck driver - Scott Steinberger is set for
his first ever Pro 2 race in the #18 Toyo Tires truck. Steinberger
was called to action after Monster Garage Host - Jesse James had to
withdraw from the driver's seat for Saturday's action.
The shootout was wild as Renezeder and Taylor
dualed towards the finish line pounding through the bumps. However,
Renezeder was blacked flag for contact that some have said was very
light. Nonetheless, he was put to the back of the line and fought
to get back in the action as Taylor ran hard to the finish line.
Toyo's Kevin Probst drove hard to the front of the pack warring
with Taylor along with Evan Evans. But the Skyjacker sponsored
truck driven by Scott Taylor beat them both with Probst claiming
second and Evans in third position.
Jeremy
McGrath drove with the best in Pro 2 throughout the entire race
trading paint and fiberglass to the finish line. McGrath finished
in fourth position overall.

Super Buggy Nissan
Nationals Championship |
|
San Diego, California -
After an extensive delay from the Eustaquio crash
and subsequent rescue by Chula Vista Fire Department, the Super
Buggy race got back on the green flag where #924, Aaron Hawley
ruled the roost and got an early lead fighting with trophy truck
veteran, Jerry Whelchel and the ever so tough Scott Schwalbe. Tight
in the race was Lobsam Yee driving the Major Performance powered
Super Buggy and Larry Foddrill who fought to the end. However,
Aaron Hawley braved the thick dust of the Chula Vista International
Raceway infield and took first place honors over a field of nearly
30 teams. Action was tight as the massive huge Super Buggy
field battled wheel-to-wheel charging down the front straight away
of the raceway. The front stretch is loaded with fans from all over
Southern California as the crowds are really increased from last
weekend at the final CORR Series event.
Aaron Hawley hauls the mail as he prepares to pass
Steve Krieman heading towards the finish line.

Super Buggy Nissan
Nationals Championship |
|
San Diego, California -
The Super Buggy race was wild off the start line
as cars positioned for the first lap, however Joe Eustaquio,
driving the #6 SCORE Class 10 car crashed violently and suffered
some serious injuries here in Chula Vista. It's believed that
Eustaquio lost his helmet in the crash and he banged up his head in
the car. ORC Staffer Brittany Sanchez reported Eustaquio's helmet
flew from the buggy after the initial roll. It's believed Eustaquio
rolled three times before coming to a rest. Eustaquio had to be cut out from the car as it sat on the race
track in front of the crowds. Chula Vista Fire Department personnel
worked feverishly to extract the injured racer and they later told
ORC staffers that they believed he would be alright.
The race was red flagged and cars were sent back
to the start line where we are awaiting the race to restart.

set up to perfection as he slammed the large field of race teams.
Running in second position was Javier Sacio driving the #1 car.
Finishing in third place was Broc Ross who leads the Ross Racing

Morning Update |
|
San Diego, California -
The smell of race gas has filled the Chula Vista International
Raceway as the line ups of race teams prepare to run practice. Rob
MacCachren has his Pro-4 truck set up for a run towards the
checkered flag today as he makes a big push towards the finish
line. CORR Champion Johnny Greaves was cool, calm and collective
this morning as he hung out in the Fox Racing Shox pit area with
the Fox crew. Skyjacker's Ross Hoek has pulled out all the stops as
he is forced to race Pro-2 here at the Nissan Nationals. Hoek blew
up his Sportsman-2 motor during practice on Thursday afternoon,
which resulted in the crew changing out the motor into the late
evening hours of Thursday evening. Hoek ran practice on Friday
afternoon and set some quick times as he's in search of a top five
finish in the elite Pro-2 class. The non-stop action here at the
Chula Vista pit zone has been full speed ahead throughout this
entire event. The only time it has slightly calmed has been in the
wee hours of the morning. Stay tuned as we provie you updates
throughout the race day action.
