Laughlin, Nevada: The Colorado River resort town of Laughlin, Nevada is soon to be filled with the sounds of massive horsepower as the 2004 SCORE Desert Series kicks off their season on January 16-18, 2004. With a record number of trophy trucks already registered to for this first race of the 2004 season, you can expect the fireworks to erupt on Saturday morning as the world's top desert racers battle for the championship of the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge.
The annual Laughlin Desert Challenge Score Off-Road Race is the first desert race of the year and this 2004 season is determined to be off the charts with action. The season culminates with the world renowned BAJA 1000, which this year will start in Pacific seaside town of Ensenada and finish on the Sea of Cortez coast at La Paz. However, before the SCORE Desert Series reaches the famed Baja 1000, hundreds of desert racers will challenge each other throughout the season in the deserts of the Southwest and the Baja Peninsula. The Laughlin Desert Challenge course takes the 150 plus drivers through 11 miles of rough desert terrain including the massive whoops at the base of Poorman's Hill. This area has been the site of thousands of spectators who come from afar to watch the action from atop the small hill. The course continues through the desert to the inside track of the event area, which is built to offer exciting action to spectators. A huge public address system gives up to the minute information on the racing action.
The likes of Alan Pflueger, who after a disappointing Baja 1000 race at the end of last season, is sure to bring it hard in his rebuilt Porter chassis trophy truck. The Terrible Herbst crew, PCI Racing -Scott Steinberger/Jesse Jones and NASCAR's bad-boy Robby Gordon will be at Laughlin ready to mash the peddle along with a host of many other top desert racers.
Signal Hill, California: FABTECH and PCI Racing finally put it all together and officially announced today that FABTECH has signed the famed desert racers, Scotty Steinberger and Jesse Jones to a sponsorship deal for the 2004 desert racing season. Rumored for months throughout the industry, insiders have been patiently awaiting official word from the dynamic duo of FABTECH and PCI RACING. By all accounts, this is a great union between two well-known leaders in the off-road desert community, FABTECH & PCI RACING. Both Scotty and Jesse are known for their peddle mashing agressive desert racing driving style, and years of experience in the desert and the Baja Peninsula make this partnership with FABTECH only obvious. Scott Steinberger and Jesse Jones teamed up together in 2003 and their teamwork will continue into the 2004 season. Splitting time in the seat of the 700 horsepower PCI Racing Trophy Truck both drivers have ability that is off the charts when it comes to racing in the dirt. They are highly respected by there peers and they bring it all to the table when racing in the dirt. With this union between FABTECH and PCI Racing, be sure to watch them make a move this year. Fabtech Motorsports has a major grasp on the off-road retail market throughout the nation and they will be bringing the 2004 FABTECH Rolling Road show to many desert races throughout th season. This rolling road show will feature some of their latest designs in the industry for all to see.
PCI Racing has incorporated many changes in moving forward to the 2004 race season. While keeping up with the demanding schedules and constant changes in the PCI Racing Trophy Truck prior to races, Terrible Herbst Racing Team Member, Jason "Big Bizkit" Briscoe was brought over to PCI Racing to take over the helm as the Crew Chief. Previously, Barry Beacham's Race Prep Services was responsible for prepping Scotty's truck, but with the ever changing times and new direction for the PCI Racing Team, it was decided to bring Big Bizkit on full-time to handle the everything on the truck from A to Z. Race Prep Services has long been associated with the PCI Racing Team and their long hard hours of endless working prepping Scott's trophy truck was not unnoticed. Nice job to Barry & Cory Beacham, and of course "Hollywood" whose responsibility it was to prep that bitchin' truck after each race. Great job boyz! And working nearly full-time with Jason Briscoe is Wes Huston who has been part of the PCI Race Team for years.
Adjacent to the PCI Race Radio Shop in Signal Hill, California, Scotty has converted the previous storage garage into a full race shop as the #7 PCI Race Truck is now prepped at their shop. Also joining in the fray is long-time PCI Racing employee, Jimmy Reynolds who is a big part of Scotty's team. And no one can forget Hank Beach who volunteers endlessly to coordinate the PCI Racing Team efforts. Scotty recently told us, "We are stepping it up this season and everyone will see that we have a more competitive effort this year." Scott commented, "We also have a brain trust going on as we are working on the design of a new race truck for Jesse Jones in the near future." PCI Racing is sponsored by FABTECH MOTORSPORTS, HELLA, BORLA, CompDoor.com, MASTERCRAFT NEO, SIGNPROS and BFGoodrich Tires for the 2004 Desert Racing Season.
And it's a whose who in the feared Class 1 class. With Dale Ebberts and Ernie Castro Jr. debuting the latest in technology with the Julson-built Class 1, which was featured in the January edition of Off-Road.com. there is a host of others beside the regulars of Troy Herbst in the Herbst Truggy, the Weyrich Brothers in the Tube Specialities cars, Hovey in his winning Class 1, and a new race car being driven by Ron Brandt and Richard Boyle along with a slew of others ready to get in the dirt. Boyle and Brandt had the 2002 SCORE Mechanic of the Year-Barry Beacham design and build a brand new Class 1 over the course of the past year. And after an extensive testing period, Race Prep Services Cory Beacham reports that the vehicle has performed above expectations. With more than a few hundred miles beneath the tires, the new vehicle, named, "RPS ONE" has been aero-dynamically designed to improve performance in many areas as well as engineered to win championships. The team of Ron Brandt & Richard Boyle will take the newly christened "RPS ONE" off the line in third position as the Class 1's head into the Laughlin desert.
Expect the competition to be tight throughout the lineup of the toughest desert racers in the business. And Off-Road.com will be there with a crew of desert dogs chasing down the information and photos to keep you up-to-date with the latest in the SCORE Desert Racing scene. Stay tuned daily as we update you with the latest rumors and information from race teams as it continues to pour into ORC headquarters...
