For those who outgrow the Kawasaki KX85, but aren't quite ready for a full-sized KX125, the Kawasaki KX100 steps up to fill the gap. Larger than the traditional 85cc minicycle, the KX100 gets its increased stature with the addition of larger wheels, minor chassis adjustments and increased displacement.

In 2001, the KXI00 gets increased power from a new carburetor and other engine modifications, plus better handling due to chassis changes.

Click for Larger ImageThe KX 100 is powered by a liquid-cooled two-stroke engine very similar to the one found in the KX85, but displacement is increased from 85cc to 99cc with a larger bore. To increase power there's a new 28mm carburetor that's 2mm larger than the previous unit and has a crescent slide to position the needle closer to the intake ports. Ignition timing was changed to maximize the effects of the new carburetor. A larger air intake cutout on the airbox and larger diameter duct to the carburetor improves airflow while a new carbon fiber intake reed valve aids throttle response. A redesigned exhaust port and new exhaust pipe capped with a shorter, KX250-style muffler operate more efficiently for improved power.

Click for Larger ImageThe KX100 has a high-tensile steel perimeter frame, just like larger-displacement KX bikes. A new gas tank puts the fuel load much lower in the frame to lower the center of gravity for improved handling. A new left-side shroud gives the KX100 an even closer resemblance to its larger KX siblings and helps cool the ignition and engine, while the single radiator is still fitted to the right side. Adjustable long-travel suspension at both ends smoothes the roughest motocross courses. The front brake master cylinder was changed to the same knocker-type as found on the KX125 and KX250 for better feel, while both brake discs are now mounted with shoulder bolts for easier maintenance.

FEATURES

Liquid Cooled Engine

  • Right hand engine cover provides a separate clutch cover for quick servicing without removing the water pump
  • Assures greater reliability

Kawasaki Integrated Power Valve System

  • KIPS system controls exhaust port height for increased horsepower and torque
  • Produces a broad powerband with more low-end torque and mid-range, while retaining excellent top-end power

28mm Keihin Carburetor

  • New crescent slide carburetor puts the needle closer to the intake ports for excellent throttle response
  • Adjustable for various conditions

Click for Larger ImageClutch

  • Clutch hub rides on needle bearings for smooth action
  • Clutch plates are a large 119mm in diameter for durability and control
  • Clutch release lever ratio provides light clutch lever action
  • Clutch lever and perch is borrowed from the KX 125 / KX250

6-Speed Transmission

  • Positive shifting action and rugged durability, with a gear for every situation
  • Allows the engine's full potential to be realized
  • Provides oil level window

High Tensile Steel Perimeter Frame

  • Wide footpegs for better control, made of cast steel for strength, and use a 10mm pivot for durability
  • Thick footpeg brackets withstand today's rigorous tracks
  • sidestand is detachable like larger KX models
  • Redesigned fuel tank sits lower in frame to lower center of gravity and improve handling

UNI-TRAK® Rear Suspension

  • The swingarm uses large cross section beams for more rigidity and control
  • The swingarm incorporates cast aluminum drive chain adjuster sections like the big KX's for easy chain adjustments and swingarm rigidity
  • Flanged collars are used at the bearings to protect the seals from mud
  • Fully adjustable shock with compression and rebound damping and spring preload adjustments

36mm Inverted Cartridge Fork

  • The upper tubes are made of aluminum and are 49.5mm in diameter for excellent control and steering response
  • Compression damping is 18-way adjustable

Front and Rear Disc Brakes

  • Forged aluminum rear brake pedal is stronger and lighter and uses two seals at the pivot for smooth operation
  • New front master cylinder with knocker-type lever

Front and Rear Wheels

  • Rear hub features two wheel bearings on the drive side of the hub for durability
  • Thick spokes are used front and rear for strong wheels requiring less adjustment
